Letter, 1794 Apr. 19, Broad River, [S.C., to] John Bynum, Congaree [S.C.].

Letter discussing conditions in the midlands of South Carolina, written from "Broad River" [present-day upper Richland County or Lexington County, S.C.?] to Bynum in "Congaree" [lower Richland County, S.C.?] Hampton explains that he did not intend to plant indigo, owing to "the Grasshoppers being so exceedingly numerous," requesting that Bynum collect six pounds owed by Mr. Waring " & buy some Corn ... till you can git a further Supply, " and listing items to be sent by Joe, his African-American slave.
